اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا

O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!

Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna

When to Read

This dua is specifically for seeking rain during a drought, which is a direct cause of famine and scarcity of food and water. It's a cry for immediate relief when crops are failing and thirst is present. You can recite this as often as needed when the need arises, especially during congregational prayers or individually.

How to Read

The urgency in the repetition of 'aghithna' (grant us rain) conveys the deep need. Recite it with a sincere heart, raising your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Imagine the dryness, the parched earth, and feel the genuine plea for Allah's mercy to descend. It’s about acknowledging our utter dependence on Him for the essentials of life.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple yet powerful dua reflects our recognition of Allah as Ar-Razzaq (The Provider) and Al-Ghaith (The Granter of Rain). It reminds us that even in the direst of circumstances, turning to Allah with earnest supplication is our most potent weapon. The repetition emphasizes the intensity of the need and the unwavering reliance on Allah's ability to provide when all other means fail.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah for rain on the pulpit on Fridays. In his invocation he would say: 'O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.' This was during the time when there was drought. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say, 'O Allah, grant us rain, and do not make us among the despondent. O Allah, grant us rain, and do not make us among the destroyers.' Then he added, 'O Allah, grant us rain, safe from evil, widespread, abundant, beneficial and not harmful.' He said, 'Rain did not come at that time, so the people complained to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) that they could not find water. So he said, 'It is hoped that our Lord will send it to us tomorrow.' So it rained the next day, and it rained for eight days continuously. Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' So the clouds dispersed from Medina. He said, 'O Allah, on the tops of the mountains and hills, and on the rocks and places where plants grow.' So the clouds dispersed from Medina and it rained all around us, and our neighbors brought us the news that it was raining in their areas. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'O Allah, may it be a rain of mercy and not a punishment.'
