Seeking Allah's Protection from the Evil Eye and Envy

بِسْمِ اللهِ، أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil, and every beast, and from every evil eye.

Bismillahi, a'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaitanin wa hammatin, wa min kulli 'ainin lammah.

When to Read

This powerful dua is a shield we can turn to anytime we feel vulnerable. It's particularly beneficial when you sense that someone might be casting an envious glance at you, your family, or your possessions. Recite it as a daily habit for ongoing protection, or specifically when you notice signs that might indicate the evil eye is affecting you or those around you.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's power to protect. It's recommended to blow gently onto yourself after reciting it. You can also recite it onto your hands and wipe over the parts of your body that seem affected, or onto water to drink or bathe with. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his grandson Al-Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with both of them) when he was unwell, showing its efficacy in seeking healing and protection.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (may Allah be pleased with them) saying: 'I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words for protection against every devil and every poisonous thing and against every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your father (Abraham) used to seek refuge in Allah with these same words for protection for Ishmael and Isaac.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3371). Another narration in Sahih Muslim (2195) states: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every animal which is harmful and from every evil eye.'
