O Allah, I ask You by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation. Keep me alive as long as You know that life is better for me, and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me. I ask You for Your fear in secret and in public. I ask You for the word of truth in times of contentment and anger. I ask You for moderation in poverty and wealth. I ask You for everlasting bliss, and for the coolness of my eyes that never ceases. I ask You for contentment after [Your] decree, and for a pleasant life after death. I ask You for the sweetness of looking at Your Face, and the longing to meet You. I seek refuge in You from harmful distress and misleading deviation. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, and make us guides who are guided, and do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve. And forgive us, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
Allahumma inni as'aluka bi'ilmik al-ghaybi wa qudratika 'ala al-khalqi, ahyini ma 'alimta al-hayata khayran li, wa tawaffani idha 'alimta al-wafata khayran li. Wa as'aluka khashyataka fi al-ghaybi wash-shahadati, wa as'aluka kalimat al-haqqi fi ar-rida wal-ghadabi, wa as'aluka al-qasda fil-faqr wal-ghina, wa as'aluka na'iman la yanfadu, wa as'aluka qurrata 'ainin la tanqati', wa as'aluka ar-rida ba'da al-qada'i, wa as'aluka barda al-'ayshi ba'da al-mawt, wa as'aluka ladhdhatta an-nazari ila wajhik, wash-shawqa ila liqa'ik. Wa a'udhu bika min dharra'in mudirratin, wa min dalalin mudillin.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is invaluable when facing any form of oppression or injustice, particularly from those in positions of power. It is especially potent during times of political turmoil, when rulers deviate from justice, or when authorities implement corrupt or harmful policies. Recite it regularly for consistent protection and spiritual strength, and specifically when you feel vulnerable or directly threatened by such circumstances.
How to Read
Begin by invoking Allah's names and attributes, acknowledging His vast knowledge and power. Offer the dua with sincerity and heartfelt conviction, focusing on each request. Make sure to pronounce the Arabic words clearly and understand their meaning. Raise your hands in supplication as you would during other duas, especially when asking for protection and guidance. Repeat it with consistent intention, seeking Allah's refuge and mercy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that sincere dua is a powerful weapon for the believer.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication offers multifaceted benefits: it seeks Allah's guidance to live a life pleasing to Him and to depart this world with faith intact. It asks for the strength to remain truthful and righteous even under pressure, and for contentment in all states of life, whether hardship or ease. Crucially, it invokes Allah's protection from the severe consequences of straying from the path, and from misleading deviations that can lead one astray. By asking for the 'coolness of eyes' and the 'sweetness of looking at Your Face,' it aims for ultimate spiritual fulfillment and proximity to Allah. Furthermore, it seeks protection from detrimental hardship and guides us toward becoming beacons of guidance, not a source of affliction for others. It is a comprehensive plea for divine support against external pressures and internal failings.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a man who asked him, 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me a comprehensive dua.' He then taught him this supplication and instructed him to hold onto it. The context implies it is for seeking overall well-being and divine protection in this life and the next.
