Dua When Wrongly Accused

Difficulty
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 589

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of my sight, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of my tongue, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of my heart, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of my semen (or desires/procreative power).

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhab al-qabr, wa a'udhu bika min fitnat ad-Dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min fitnat al-mahya wal-maut. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa a'udhu bika min sharri basari, wa a'udhu bika min sharri lisani, wa a'udhu bika min sharri qalbi, wa a'udhu bika min sharri maniyyi.

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is incredibly useful when facing unjust accusations or any form of hardship that weighs on your heart and mind. While not exclusively for false accusations, its breadth covers many potential evils that might arise from such situations. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a protection against pervasive inner and outer evils, which includes the anxiety and distress caused by being wrongly blamed. Recite it during the times of heightened need, perhaps after the obligatory prayers, or in the quiet moments of the night when you seek solace and divine assistance.

How to Read

Utter this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking refuge in Allah from the mentioned evils. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly, as is the practice when making dua, and to face the Qiblah if possible. Most importantly, believe that Allah has the power to protect you and to reveal the truth. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized seeking refuge in Allah, so ensure your intention is pure and your reliance is solely on Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers protection against severe trials and temptations, both in this life and the hereafter. By seeking refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave and the trials of the Dajjal, you are fortifying yourself against major spiritual dangers. The protection sought for your senses (hearing, sight), heart, and desires is a holistic shield against falling into sin or being misled, especially when under pressure or facing slander. It cultivates humility and reliance on Allah, acknowledging that true safety and truthfulness come only from Him. When wrongly accused, this dua helps manage the internal turmoil by redirecting your focus to seeking Allah's help and protection, rather than succumbing to despair or anger.

Source & Authentication

The narrator, Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach his companions to seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of the Dajjal, from the trial of life and death, and to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of hearing, from the evil of seeing, from the evil of the tongue, from the evil of the heart, and from the evil of semen (or desires/procreative power). Another narration from Abu Hurairah states: 'When one of you finishes the Tashahhud, he should seek refuge in Allah from four things, saying: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death.'
