Dua When All Human Help Has Been Exhausted

Difficulty
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4563

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel

When to Read

This powerful declaration is best recited when you find yourself in a situation where all avenues of human assistance have been explored and have failed, leaving you feeling helpless and without options. It is the ultimate expression of reliance on Allah when the world offers no comfort or solution. Whether facing a dire financial crisis, a severe illness, intense persecution, or any overwhelming challenge, this dua becomes your refuge.

How to Read

Recite this phrase with absolute sincerity and conviction. Understand that 'Hasbunallah' means Allah alone is enough for you, encompassing all needs, protection, and support. 'Wa ni'mal wakeel' signifies that He is the ultimate Trustee and Guardian, the one to whom all matters are committed. Say it with a heart that has surrendered to Allah's plan, believing wholeheartedly that He will manage your affairs in the best possible way, even if the means are not immediately apparent to you. It's often repeated in times of great distress.

Virtues & Benefits

When the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, he uttered this phrase. Allah states in the Quran, 'We said, O fire, be coolness and safety upon Ibrahim' (Al-Anbiya 21:69). Similarly, when the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ were informed that the disbelievers had gathered against them, they responded with 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel' (Al 'Imran 3:173), and Allah turned back the disbelievers in their rage, having gained no good. This dua reflects a deep Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and Yaqin (certainty), leading to Allah's direct intervention and sufficiency.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): 'Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best disposer of affairs.' Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said it when he was thrown into the fire, and Muhammad ﷺ said it when the people said: 'Verily, the people have gathered against you (an army), so fear them.' But it increased them only in faith. And they said: 'Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best disposer of affairs.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 4563)
