Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel
When to Read
This powerful statement is recited when faced with overwhelming difficulties, extreme hardship, or situations that seem utterly insurmountable. It’s what the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said when thrown into the fire, and what the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the believers said when told that the people had gathered against them. Recite it when you feel your resources are depleted, your strength is gone, and all human solutions have failed. It is a declaration of absolute reliance on Allah when the world feels impossible.
How to Read
Recite this phrase with sincere conviction and a heart full of tawakkul (reliance on Allah). Understand its meaning deeply – that Allah alone is our ultimate protection and support. Repeat it as many times as needed, especially in moments of intense distress. It can be uttered aloud or silently, but the sincerity in your heart is paramount. This isn't just a word; it's an acknowledgment of Allah's supreme power and control over all affairs.
Virtues & Benefits
This statement carries immense weight because it was uttered by the Prophets themselves in the direst of circumstances. When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said it, Allah commanded the fire to be coolness and safety for him. Sahih al-Bukhari 4563 recounts that when the people told the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, 'Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them,' he ﷺ replied with this phrase, and it strengthened him and the believers. It signifies a transfer of one's complete trust to Allah, acknowledging that He is the best guardian and the most capable disposer of affairs. This act of profound reliance can bring immense peace, courage, and divine support.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): 'Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best Disposer of affairs.' Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said this when he was thrown into the fire, and I (the narrator) heard that Muhammad ﷺ said this when he was told: 'The people have gathered to fight you, so fear them.' But they (i.e. Abu Bakr and Umar mentioned later) only increased in Faith by saying it.
