Difficulty
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and being dominated by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

Virtues & Benefits

This specific dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, addresses key anxieties associated with hardship: distress, helplessness, fear, and financial burdens (debt and the pressure from others). By seeking refuge in Allah from these specific trials, we acknowledge His ultimate power and our dependence on Him. It's not just about asking for money, but asking for protection from the negative psychological and social impacts of financial struggle. This seeking of refuge is a spiritual act that can bring immense peace and open doors to solutions we might not have seen otherwise.

(Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and being dominated by men.)
