Dua for Strength When Facing Public Criticism

Difficulty
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your wrath, and all that incurs Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek.

When to Read

This powerful dua is for moments when you feel overwhelmed by criticism, judgment, or any form of hardship that makes you question your standing or feel vulnerable. Recite it when facing public scrutiny, harsh words, or situations where you feel your reputation or peace of mind is under attack. It's about seeking Allah's ultimate protection against any loss of His favor, which is the true source of strength and well-being.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on your reliance on Allah. Raise your hands slightly in supplication, as is the practice during dua. Understand that seeking refuge in Allah is seeking protection from the One who truly controls all outcomes. Repeating it three times, as the Prophet ﷺ often did with supplications, can enhance its impact.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encompasses seeking refuge from profound losses: the loss of divine blessings, the withdrawal of well-being and safety, and the sudden onset of divine punishment or anger. When facing criticism, we might feel our 'blessings' or 'protection' are threatened. This dua reminds us that true strength and security come only from Allah. By seeking refuge in Him, we acknowledge that external criticism is temporary and insignificant compared to His pleasure and protection. It helps shift focus from human judgment to divine reliance, fostering inner resilience.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge with Allah by saying: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your wrath, and all that incurs Your displeasure.'
