Difficulty
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2671

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm on Your religion.

Ya muqallib al-qulubi, thabbit qalbi 'ala deenik

When to Read

Recite this dua at any time, especially when you feel your resolve weakening against temptation or the urge to sin. It's particularly potent after obligatory prayers, during the stillness of the night, or whenever you remember Allah. Think of it as a constant plea to the One who truly controls the hearts.

How to Read

Raise your hands slightly, as the Prophet ﷺ did for supplication. Focus your heart and mind on the meaning of the words. Utter it sincerely, acknowledging that strength comes only from Allah. Repeat it multiple times for emphasis, especially during times of trial.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful acknowledgement of Allah's sovereignty over our hearts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, despite being promised Paradise and being the most steadfast in faith, would frequently make this supplication. This teaches us that spiritual resilience is not automatic; it requires constant reliance on Allah. By asking Allah to 'keep my heart firm on Your religion,' we are seeking His help to remain steadfast in obedience, avoid sin, and maintain our connection with Him, even when faced with the allure of temptation.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The likeness of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is that of abundant rain which fell upon some ground. A part of it was fertile and absorbed the water and brought forth much grass and vegetation. Another part of it was hard and held the water, with Allah benefiting people by it, and they utilized it for drinking and making use of it. Then it was also said to them: 'Part of it was barren; it neither held the water nor brought forth vegetation.' He (the narrator) said: 'This is the likeness of the one who understands Allah's religion and benefits from what Allah has sent me with (guidance and knowledge), and the one who does not benefit from it and does not avail himself of the guidance of Allah with which I have been sent.' Yahya ibn 'Amir said: 'I heard this Hadith from Abu Musa, and he narrated to me from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: 'O Allah, the Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm on Your religion.' And he was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, why do you make supplication so often?' He said: 'No heart is safe from being turned around between the fingers of Ar-Rahman.'
