Dua for Strength to Forgive Those Who Have Wronged You

Difficulty
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1525

O Allah, I ask You for a soul at ease, believing in Your meeting, content with Your decree, and satisfied with Your bestowal.

Allahumma inni as'aluka nafsan bika mutma'innah, tu'minu biliqa'ika, wa tardha bi qada'ika, wa taqna'u bi 'ata'ika.

When to Read

Recite this dua whenever you feel the burden of holding onto grudges. It's particularly beneficial during times of personal reflection, after a prayer, or when you're actively seeking peace within yourself and with others. When someone has deeply hurt you, and you struggle to let go, turn to this supplication to find the inner strength granted by Allah.

How to Read

Begin with fresh ablution (wudu) if possible. Face the Qiblah, raise your hands in supplication, and recite this dua with sincere intention and concentration. Reflect on the meaning of each phrase, asking Allah to grant you the tranquility and acceptance mentioned. Consistency is key; make it a habit when you feel the need to release resentment.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound request for inner peace and contentment. By asking for a soul 'at ease' (mutma'innah), we seek freedom from the anxiety and stress that unforgiveness brings. Believing in Allah's meeting (tu'minu biliqa'ika) strengthens our connection to the hereafter and our understanding that our struggles are temporary. Contentment with His decree (tardha bi qada'ika) fosters patience and acceptance of life's challenges, including the actions of others. Finally, being satisfied with Allah's bestowal (taqna'u bi 'ata'ika) helps us appreciate what we have and discourages envy or dissatisfaction, which can fuel grudges. Forgiveness is a difficult but rewarding path; this dua helps us seek divine assistance in traversing it.
