Dua for Strength to Endure Physical Pain

Difficulty
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3712

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept exclusively to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, to make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the driver away of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukuMuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uKa, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabia qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a person is afflicted with affliction and says: 'Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabia qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi, ('O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept exclusively to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, to make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the driver away of my worries,') then Allah will take away his affliction and replace his grief with happiness.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He said: 'Yes, indeed! It is necessary for everyone who hears them to learn them.'
