Dua for Strength to Endure and Overcome Physical Ailments

Difficulty
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever established. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to any of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abd-uka, ibnu 'abd-ika, ibnu amat-ika, nasiyati biyad-ik, madin fiyya hukm-uk, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'-uk, as'aluka bikulli-smin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalq-ik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabi-k, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

Narrated `Abdullah: We were with the Prophet ﷺ, suffering from hardship. He said: 'A servant of Allah does not suffer any affliction on the surface of the earth, the severity of which is greater than an affliction which was inflicted on me. So Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: 'O Muhammad! You are my servant and the son of my servant and the son of my handmaid. My forelock is in My hand. My judgment is exercised through me. My decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, by which You have instructed Your creation, or You have sent down in Your Book, or which You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the light of my chest and the banisher of my grief and the remover of my anxiety.' So it was said to the Prophet ﷺ: 'Should we not learn these words and teach them to our sick and those in our grief?' He said: 'Yes, indeed, by Allah, teach them to them.'
