Virtues & Benefits
This declaration was famously uttered by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he was cast into the fire, and by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when the disbelievers said, 'Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.' (Al-Imran 3:173). It signifies complete reliance on Allah, acknowledging His sufficiency in all matters. When facing opposition, ostracization, or any trial that makes you feel isolated, reciting this can bring immense peace, strength, and divine intervention. Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The worst that could be said about the enemies of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was when he was thrown into the fire, they said: 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel' (Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best disposer of affairs). This was said by Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Narrated 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): When it was the day of the Battle of Badr, the Prophet ﷺ said, 'O people, Allah has decreed that you should go to the gathering of Abu Sufyan. So you should go towards him.' Abu Sufyan and his troops were returning after their caravan had escaped. So the Prophet ﷺ and his companions went towards them. When they reached them, Abu Sufyan and his men were on a dune. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'O Allah, if you wish, do not let us meet them.' So they went back. But the caravan had escaped. Then Abu Sufyan said to his men, 'We shall return to Medina.' So they went back. The Prophet ﷺ then said, 'Verily, Allah has decreed that we should go to the gathering of Abu Sufyan (i.e., battle). So go to him.' The Muslims went forward and met Abu Sufyan and his men. Abu Sufyan said to his men, 'The camels of the Arabs are back, and there are camels loaded with cheese and dried grapes. The wealth is there. May Allah save us from Muhammad ﷺ.' Then he said to his companions, 'Is there anyone to guide us to the water?' So a man guided them to a well. Abu Sufyan said, 'I will go to Muhammad ﷺ and make a treaty with him so that he leaves us and our camels. If he agrees, I will agree.' So Abu Sufyan went to the Prophet ﷺ and spoke to him. The Prophet ﷺ said to him, 'Is this what you want?' Abu Sufyan said, 'Yes.' Then the Prophet ﷺ said to his companions, 'Go and sacrifice your camels and eat and be grateful for them.' But the companions of the Prophet ﷺ said, 'O Allah, grant us a decisive victory!' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Verily, Allah has decreed that we should go to the gathering of Abu Sufyan.' When the two armies met, the Muslims said, 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel.'
