Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told us that whoever recites this dua three times in the evening will be protected from any harm until the morning, and whoever recites it three times in the morning will be protected from any harm until the evening. It's a simple yet profound act of relying on Allah's divine safeguard against all creation's potential evils.

Source & Authentication

Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He who says: 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadhurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-sami'ul-'alim' (In the name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) three times every morning, will not be smitten by any calamity until the morning of the next day, and whoever says it three times in the evening will not be smitten by calamity until the morning of the next day." (Sahih Abu Dawud 5088). While the primary hadith often quoted for seeking refuge is the one above, the dua 'A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq' is also a foundational statement of seeking Allah's protection. It is found in Sahih Muslim 2708. It is recommended to recite both for comprehensive protection.
