يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ وَعَلَى طَاعَتِكَ

"O Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion and upon Your obedience."

*Ya muqalliba al-qulubi, thabbit qalbi 'ala dinika wa 'ala ta'atika.*

When to Read

This dua is incredibly powerful when facing the overwhelming urge of addiction, or when feeling unsteady in your commitment to recovery. Recite it especially during moments of doubt, temptation, or when seeking strength to remain steadfast on the path of sobriety. It's perfect to say as part of your daily supplications, after prayers, or whenever you feel your resolve wavering.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a deep sense of dependence on Allah. Focus on the meaning: acknowledging that only Allah can truly stabilize your heart. Raise your hands if possible, and imagine Allah's power transforming your desires and strengthening your will. Repeat it frequently throughout the day, especially when you feel vulnerable to your addiction.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, directly addresses the core of addiction: the struggle within the heart and the will. By asking Allah to make our hearts firm, we are seeking His divine intervention to anchor us to faith and obedience, which are the opposite of addiction's destructive path. It acknowledges our weakness and Allah's absolute power over all matters, including our desires and inclinations.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘As reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger ﷺ say: “Verily, the hearts of the children of Adam are between the fingers of the Most Merciful, and He turns them however He wills.” Then Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: “O Allah, Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion and upon Your obedience.” (Sahih Muslim 2671). This hadith highlights the profound truth that our hearts are entirely in Allah's control. The Prophet ﷺ, despite being the most righteous of creation, constantly turned to Allah for strength. This teaches us the crucial importance of seeking Allah's help, especially when battling something as powerful as addiction.
