Dua for Relief from the Burden of Loneliness

Difficulty
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 4420

O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your justice over me is enacted. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the unseen knowledge with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sorrow, and the remover of my anxieties.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya h Markuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This profound dua is perfect for recitation during moments of deep sadness, isolation, or when feeling overwhelmed by the world. It's especially potent when you feel adrift and disconnected, seeking a spiritual anchor. Recite it during the stillness of the night, after prayers, or whenever the weight of loneliness presses down on your heart.

How to Read

Begin with sincere intention, acknowledging your complete reliance on Allah. Start with the obligatory prayers or upon waking. Raise your hands, as is customary when making dua, and pour your heart out. Focus on the meaning of each word, feeling the earnestness of the supplication. Believe in Allah's power to answer and His infinite mercy. Repeating it with humility and concentration can amplify its effect.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a companion when he complained of distress, directly addresses the root of loneliness and sadness: a disconnected heart. By asking Allah to make the Quran the 'springtime of the heart,' the 'light of the chest,' the 'banisher of sorrow,' and the 'remover of anxiety,' we are seeking a profound spiritual healing. The Quran, when truly embraced, fills the void, illuminates the path, and brings a deep sense of peace and companionship, replacing feelings of isolation with the presence of the Divine.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'O Abdullah bin Qais! Shall I not teach you a Hadith that is one of the treasures of this Ummah?" I said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He said: "O Allah, forgive me my sins, and my wrongdoings. O Allah, grant me the best of Your blessings, and Your mercy, and Your guidance, and Your sustenance. O Allah, I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the unseen knowledge with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and the banisher of my sorrow, and the remover of my anxiety.' The companion, Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), said: 'So I went and learned this dua. Then I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he informed me that Allah has indeed granted me the fulfillment of my supplication.' (Narrated by Ahmad)
