Dua for Protection from Sudden Accidents and Catastrophes

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim.

How to Read

It's best recited after the obligatory prayers or at the start of the morning and evening, ensuring you are in a state of purity if possible, though sincerity of heart is paramount. Repeat it three times in the morning and three times in the evening to attain its full benefits.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ assured us that whoever recites this dua in the morning and evening, nothing will harm them. This protection extends to all forms of harm, be it from the elements, evil eyes, accidents, or even poisons. It’s a comprehensive safeguard granted by Allah through His divine decree. Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'He who says: 'Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim' three times every morning, will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the evening comes. And he who says it in the evening, will not be afflicted by any calamity until the morning comes.' (Sunan Abu Dawud 5087, Sahih according to Al-Albani).

Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no servant who says, in the morning of every day and the evening of every night: 'Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim' (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing), three times, but that his night and day will not be harmed.'
