Dua for Protection from Sudden Accidents and Catastrophes

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Bismillahi alladhi la yaduru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Samee'ul-'Aleem

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited three times in the morning and three times in the evening. It's a shield against unforeseen calamities and anything that might cause harm throughout the day or night.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and firm conviction in Allah's power. Imagine yourself being enveloped in Allah's protection as you utter these words. It's best recited after Fajr (morning) and Asr (afternoon) prayers, or whenever you leave your home for the day or night.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua ensures that no sudden affliction or misfortune will befall the person who says it. It acts as a spiritual safeguard, keeping one safe from harm, accidents, and calamities, by Allah's will. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ mentioned that whoever says this three times in the morning will not be touched by sudden misfortune until evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will not be touched by sudden misfortune until morning. (Sunan Abu Dawud 5088)

Narrated by 'Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "He who says: 'Bismillahi alladhi la yaduru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Samee'ul-'Aleem' (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing) three times every morning, will not be afflicted by sudden calamity until the morning of the next day, and if anyone says it in the morning three times, he will not be afflicted by sudden calamity until the evening of that day."
