اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.
Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka
When to Read
This powerful dua is recommended to be recited when facing financial hardship, especially when burdened by debt. It's a prayer that can be made at any time, but is particularly poignant when seeking Allah's help to find lawful means to repay what is owed and to become independent of needing to ask others.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on your need for Allah's assistance. Ideally, it is recited after every obligatory prayer (Salah). You can also make it a regular part of your supplications (duas) throughout the day, especially in the morning and evening. Visualizing your debts being repaid and your financial situation improving can strengthen the effect of your prayer.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah to provide for us through lawful means, steering us away from haram (forbidden) earnings which can lead to further difficulties. It also seeks to fill our hearts with contentment and reliance on Allah alone, a state that brings true richness and peace, preventing us from becoming dependent on people. By asking Allah to suffice us with His halal provision, we are essentially asking for blessings in our income and opportunities, which can manifest as a debt becoming easier to manage or opportunities arising for its repayment. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was struggling to repay his debt, indicating its specific efficacy for this situation.

Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Book 48, Hadith 3563: Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A slave of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am unable to pay for my freedom, so help me.' He said: 'Shall I not teach you words that you may say, and if you have the equivalent of a mountain of debt, Allah would pay it off for you?' He said: 'Yes, do teach me.' He said: 'Say: Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You). Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'So I said these words, and Allah paid off my debt.'
