اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I am in no need of anyone but You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited when one is burdened by debt or facing financial hardship. It's a plea for divine assistance to find lawful means to earn a living and to be independent of others, thus alleviating the stress and worry associated with debt.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's ability to provide. It's best recited after every obligatory prayer, or at any time you feel the weight of debt pressing upon you. Focus on the meaning and the reliance it expresses on Allah's boundless grace.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a profound expression of trust in Allah's provision. By asking Allah to suffice us with halal (lawful) means, we actively seek to distance ourselves from unlawful earnings that bring no true blessing. Asking for enrichment through His grace emphasizes our dependence on Him alone, fostering contentment and reducing the sting of needing to borrow or rely on others. This reliance can lead to a sense of peace and ease, even while facing financial challenges, and opens doors to barakah (blessings) in one's sustenance.

Source & Authentication

Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and complained about the weight of debt. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Shall I not teach you words that, if you say them, Allah will remove your debt, even if it were as much as Mount Sabiq (a mountain in Yemen)?' The man said: 'Yes, please do.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I am in no need of anyone but You.)
