โœฆ

My Lord, expand for me my breast, and make my task easy, and loosen the knot from my tongue, so they may understand my speech.

Rabbishrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri, wah-lul 'uqdatam mil lisaani, yafqahu qawli

When to Read

Recite this dua frequently, especially before starting a study session, when feeling overwhelmed by the task of memorizing or understanding the Quran, or when facing difficulties in reciting or comprehending its verses. It's a powerful supplication when you begin a new chapter of memorization or revision, or simply when the path feels steep.

How to Read

Recite with sincere intention and deep conviction, focusing on the meaning of the words. Imagine Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is directly responding to your plea. Raise your hands in supplication if possible, and make this a habit. It's not just about the words, but the humility and earnestness with which they are uttered. Repeat it multiple times if needed, especially when facing a particular hurdle.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, famously recited by Musa (Moses) 'alayhis salam when he was tasked with confronting Fir'awn (Pharaoh), is a comprehensive plea for clarity, ease, and effective communication. For those learning the Quran, it directly addresses the barriers we face: the 'expansion of the chest' (sadr) signifies opening the heart to knowledge and wisdom, overcoming mental blocks and anxiety. 'Making the task easy' (yassir li amri) asks for divine facilitation in the process of learning and memorization, smoothing out difficulties. The 'loosing of the knot from the tongue' (wah-lul 'uqdatam mil lisaani) helps in clear recitation and articulation of the Quranic verses, ensuring proper pronunciation and understanding.
