Dua for Comfort and Strength During Divorce

Difficulty
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3712

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitābika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This profound dua is for anyone facing immense emotional distress, such as during a divorce. It's a plea to Allah to ease the burden of grief, anxiety, and sorrow that often accompanies such life-altering circumstances. Recite it when you feel overwhelmed, lost, or burdened by the emotional weight of separation.

How to Read

This dua is best recited with sincerity and a focused heart. It's not about perfection in pronunciation, but about the earnestness of your supplication. Raise your hands (if possible) as a sign of humility and reliance on Allah. Believe that Allah hears you and has the power to bring you peace and comfort through His words and His decree.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a companion facing distress, is a powerful tool for emotional and spiritual healing. It acknowledges Allah's complete control and divine justice while seeking solace and guidance. The benefits lie in finding inner peace, clarity of mind, and the strength to navigate difficult times by connecting with the divine, transforming sorrow into a source of spiritual renewal through the Qur'an.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no one who has suffered any anxiety or grief, and then said: *Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitābika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.* (There is no one who has suffered any anxiety or grief, and then said...) – but Allah will remove his anxiety and grief, and replace it with joy.' It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn these words?' He said: 'Yes, indeed; it is appropriate for everyone who hears them after this to learn them.'
