اللَّهُمَّ فَقِّهْنِي فِي الدِّينِ
O Allah, grant me understanding in the religion.
Allahumma faqqihni fid-deen
When to Read
This dua is particularly relevant when grappling with complex Islamic rulings, intricate jurisprudential issues, or any religious matter that feels overwhelming. It's beneficial to recite it regularly, especially during times of study, when seeking knowledge, or before engaging with challenging texts. You might say it before opening a fiqh book, attending a lecture, or discussing a nuanced religious topic.
How to Read
Recite this supplication with sincere intention and focus. Raise your hands as you do so, a practice of the Prophet ﷺ when making dua. Believe in Allah's ability to open your heart and mind. It's best to be in a state of purity (wudu) if possible, and to face the Qiblah.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's help for understanding is a sign of humility and reliance on Him. The Prophet ﷺ himself supplicated in this manner. By asking Allah to grant understanding ('fiqh'), we are directly asking for the ability to grasp the deeper meanings and wisdom within Islamic teachings. This can lead to a more profound connection with our faith and a more confident application of its principles in our lives. Allah's Messenger ﷺ promised good to those upon whom he bestowed understanding. He said: "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him understand the religion." (Sahih al-Bukhari 71).

Narrated by Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him understand the religion. Allah is the Knower, and I am the one who distributes (the knowledge)."
