O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment over me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept secret with You in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my grief, and the banisher of my worries.
Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabil, aw 'atharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, 'There is no one who is afflicted with distress or grief, and says: *Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabil, aw 'atharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.* (O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment over me is just. He was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn these words?' He replied: 'Yes, indeed everyone who hears them should learn them.'
