O Allah, forgive [Name of deceased], have mercy on him, grant him security, pardon him, honor his reception, make his grave spacious, cleanse him with water, snow, and hail. Purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt. Give him a home better than his former home, a family better than his former family, and a spouse better than his former spouse. Enter him into Paradise, and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
Allahummaghfir li [Name of deceased], warhamhu, wa 'afihi, wa'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu, wa wassi' madkhalahu, waghsilhu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-baradi, wa naqqihi minal-khataaya kama yunaqqath-thawbul-abyadu minad-danasi, wa abdilhu daaran khairan min daarihi, wa ahlan khairan min ahlihi, wa zawjan khairan min zawjihi, wa adkhilhul-jannata, wa a'idh-hu min 'adhadhil-qabri wa min 'adhadhin-naar.
When to Read
This supplication is vital for anyone whose loved one has passed away, especially if there were unresolved personal matters or grievances. Recite it whenever you remember the deceased, or during times of reflection, such as after prayer or before sleeping. Making dua for the deceased is a continuous act of kindness that benefits them in the grave and on the Day of Judgment.
How to Read
Begin by sincerely intending to pray for the deceased. Make sure to replace '[Name of deceased]' with the actual name of the person you are praying for. Facing the Qiblah (direction of prayer) can be a good etiquette, though not mandatory. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah with earnestness and humility. It is recommended to make this dua for any Muslim who has passed away, not just those with whom you had a close relationship.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua encompasses a full spectrum of requests for the deceased, seeking Allah's forgiveness, mercy, and protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this prayer, highlighting its importance. It not only seeks to alleviate the burdens of the deceased in the hereafter but also offers solace to the living by engaging in this act of worship and remembrance. By asking Allah to replace their earthly home with a better one in Jannah and to grant them relief from the punishment of the grave and the Fire, we are actively participating in their journey towards Allah's pleasure.
