اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ، وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، وَزَوْجًا خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِهِ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَأَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ.
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whoever You cause to live from among us, let him live upon Islam, and whoever You cause to die from among us, let him die upon faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of its (the prayer's) reward and do not cause us to go astray after it.
Allahumma-ghfir li-hayyina wa mayyitina wa shahidinā wa gā'ibinā wa ṣaghīrinā wa kabīrinā wa dhakarinā wa unthānā. Allahumma man 'aqmaltu minnā fa'aqmuhu 'alayhi, wa man tawaffaytahu minnā fa tawaffahu 'alā al-Islām. Allahumma lā taḥrimnā ajrahu wa lā tuḍillanā ba'dahu.
When to Read
This prayer is general for any deceased Muslim, and is particularly relevant when remembering someone who has passed, whether recently or in the past. It's a beautiful way to supplicate for them, especially after hearing of their passing or on occasions like the anniversary of their death, or simply as part of our regular remembrance of those who have gone before us.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention for the deceased. Facing the Qiblah is a good practice when making supplication, though not strictly required. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible. Raise your hands as you would for any other dua, and beseech Allah with humility and hope. It is also beneficial to make similar duas for the deceased throughout the year, especially on Friday.

It was narrated from 'Awf bin Malik Al-Ashja'i that he said: "I stood up to pray behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he recited [saying]: 'Allahumma-ghfir li-hayyina wa mayyitina wa shahidinā wa gā'ibinā wa ṣaghīrinā wa kabīrinā wa dhakarinā wa unthānā. Allahumma man 'aqmaltu minnā fa'aqmuhu 'alayhi, wa man tawaffaytahu minnā fa tawaffahu 'alā al-Islām. Allahumma lā taḥrimnā ajrahu wa lā tuḍillanā ba'dahu.'" (Sahih Muslim 467)
