Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming burden of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is particularly relevant when facing financial strain, overwhelming debt, or any form of hardship that causes worry and distress. It's a comprehensive prayer that addresses both internal struggles (anxiety, laziness) and external pressures (debt, oppression), making it suitable for recitation during personal trials and tribulations. Recite it regularly, especially in the morning and evening, or whenever you feel the weight of your burdens pressing down.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, turning your heart towards Allah. It's best to raise your hands in supplication, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often did. Reflect on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah's protection from these afflictions. Ensure you are in a state of purity (wudu) if possible, though the sincerity of the heart is paramount. Make it a habit, especially after your obligatory prayers.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers profound spiritual and psychological benefits. By seeking refuge in Allah, we acknowledge His ultimate power over all matters. It helps alleviate anxiety and sorrow by shifting our reliance from ourselves to our Creator. Seeking protection from incapacity and laziness empowers us to take necessary actions to improve our circumstances. Protection from cowardice and stinginess fosters courage and generosity, essential traits for overcoming challenges. Most importantly, it directly addresses the heavy burden of debt and the feeling of being overwhelmed or oppressed by others, asking Allah for a way out and for protection against such subjugation. It's a comprehensive plea for well-being, both worldly and Hereafter.
