O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overpowering of debt and the subjugation of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.
When to Read
This powerful dua should be recited regularly, especially when feeling overwhelmed by debt or financial burdens. It's a good practice to make it part of your daily supplications, perhaps after the obligatory prayers, or at any time you feel the need for Allah's protection and relief from debt's heavy weight.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Remember that while the words are important, the state of your heart and your reliance on Allah are paramount. Imagine yourself seeking Allah's direct help. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, so reciting it with earnestness is key.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers comprehensive protection against significant worldly and psychological burdens. Seeking refuge in Allah from debt specifically acknowledges its potential to cause distress, helplessness, and even humilation ('qahrir-rijal' - the subjugation of men, which can stem from being unable to meet financial obligations). By making this dua, we are asking Allah not only to relieve us of the debt itself but also from its negative psychological impacts and any situations that might lead to our humiliation.
