اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This dua is incredibly powerful for anyone facing financial difficulty or seeking to fulfill a specific, righteous intention that requires financial means, such as performing Hajj, getting married, or starting a business. Recite it regularly, especially after your obligatory prayers, or at times when you feel particularly burdened by debt. It's a plea for Allah's provision and independence from need. Imagine the Prophet Ya'qub (peace be upon him) saying his own version when facing hardship, 'I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah' (Surah Yusuf 12:86). This dua is our way of channeling that same trust and reliance.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and complete reliance on Allah (tawakkul). Facing the Qiblah is recommended, and raising your hands slightly can enhance the feeling of supplication. Believe firmly that Allah is Al-Razzaq (The Provider) and Al-Ghani (The Self-Sufficient). Combine this dua with practical steps: create a debt repayment plan, seek halal means of income, and avoid extravagance. The dua opens the doors of divine provision, but our actions help us walk through them.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking lawful provision (rizq halal) and being shielded from unlawful means, which is a cornerstone of a Muslim's financial life. It directly addresses the root of financial stress by asking Allah to make us independent of need from creation. When you recite this with the specific intention of, say, fulfilling the obligation of Hajj or securing a spouse, you are aligning your need with a righteous goal, which Allah loves. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a companion who was experiencing hardship, and Allah facilitated his repayment of debts. This shows that the dua is a direct pathway to Allah's help.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A Mubaadhab (a slave who was told to work for his freedom) came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said: 'I am unable to pay my manumission fee. Help me.' He ﷺ said: 'Shall I not teach you words that you should say, and if you say them, Allah would pay your debt for you, even if it were as much as Mount Sar, for which you might have to pay? O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563).
