Debt
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ.

O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, instead of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need to ask anyone besides You.

Allahumma-kfini bi-halalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bi-fadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This dua is especially potent when facing severe financial hardship due to debts, particularly those incurred through forbidden means like gambling. Recite it frequently during times of distress, after obligatory prayers, or any moment you feel overwhelmed by your financial burdens and seek Allah's guidance and relief.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, recognizing that ultimate provision and relief come only from Allah. Focus on the meaning of the words, acknowledging your reliance on His lawful provision and His grace. Make it a habit, especially after your daily prayers. Turn to Allah with humility, understanding that He is the source of all wealth and sufficiency.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua directly addresses the need for lawful sustenance and freedom from dependence on others. For someone burdened by gambling debts, it's a plea for Allah to replace the unlawful, ill-gotten gains with blessings from His lawful provision. It fosters contentment and trust in Allah's plan, moving one away from reliance on prohibited means and towards seeking help from the One truly sufficient. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he owed a debt, indicating its efficacy in seeking financial relief through lawful means (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563).

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me these words and promised that if you have a debt the size of Mount Sabiir, Allah would pay it for you. He said: 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful (provision), and make me independent with Your grace from all others besides You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563)
