O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite regularly, especially during difficult financial times. Recite it after your obligatory prayers (Fardh salah) when you are in a state of submission to Allah. It's also beneficial to say it in the morning and evening, as the Prophet ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah from various evils at the start and end of the day.
How to Read
With sincere intention and conviction in Allah's power to alleviate your burdens. Maintain the etiquette of dua: raise your hands, face the Qiblah if possible, begin with praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, and end with the same. Understand the meaning of each phrase you are uttering. This dua specifically asks Allah for protection from the overwhelming nature of debt and the difficulty of being overcome by others due to it.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, offers profound protection and relief. It encompasses seeking refuge from mental anguish (distress and sorrow), helplessness and lack of motivation (incapacity and laziness), and character flaws that can exacerbate financial problems (cowardice and stinginess).
