Dua for Relief from Debt Incurred Supporting the Oppressed

Debt
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3564

O You who suffices His creation and no one suffices Him, suffice me in my affairs that concern me, and what is absent from me, and what is present, and what is delayed, and what is destined, and what I fear, and what I dread. Grant me a good peace, and grant me victory, and do not let me be overcome. Grant me (what I need), and do not be granted (what is needed from me, i.e., do not deplete my resources). And grant me from Your presence a decisive victory.

When to Read

This profound dua is best recited when facing overwhelming debt, especially when the debt was incurred with good intentions, such as supporting someone who was oppressed or unjustly treated. You can recite it anytime you feel the burden of debt weighing heavily on your mind and heart, after obligatory prayers or during times of personal supplication.

How to Read

This dua is meant to be recited with sincerity and a deep reliance on Allah. Make sure you are in a state of purity if possible. Raise your hands in supplication, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Speak directly to Allah, conveying your need and trust in His power to resolve your difficulties. It's beneficial to recite it with a mindful heart, reflecting on each word and its meaning. Repeating it multiple times can also strengthen your connection and plea.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is particularly powerful because it acknowledges Allah's absolute sufficiency and power over all things. By reciting it, you are entrusting your situation to the One who can truly provide relief. While the hadith doesn't specify a material reward, the spiritual benefit of seeking help from Allah during times of hardship is immense. It cultivates patience, trust (tawakkul), and reduces anxiety. In a situation where you bore debt to aid someone oppressed, this dua seeks divine justice and recompense, aligning your intention with Allah's pleasure. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself used this dua, indicating its significance.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abu Awfa: He said that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ went out to them and said: "He who has a need, let him say: يَا مَنْ يَكْفِي خَلْقَهُ وَلَا يَكْفِيهِ أَحَدٌ، اكْفِنِي مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا أَهُمَّنِي، وَمَا غَابَ عَنِّي، وَمَا حَضَرَ، وَمَا لَأَجْلٍ، وَمَا قَدَّرَ، وَمَا أَتَخَوَّفُ، وَمَا أَحْذَرُ، وَسَلِّمْنِي سَلَامًا طَيِّبًا، وَاغْلِبْ لِي، وَلَا تُغْلَبْ عَلَيَّ، وَهَبْ لِي، وَلَا تُوهَبْ لِي، وَاجْعَلْ لِي مِنْ عِنْدِكَ سُلْطَانًا نَصِيرًا. This is attributed to Ibn Majah and Abu Dawud with a similar wording. The chain is considered Hasan by some scholars.
