Dua for Relief from Debt and Ease During Examinations

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly relevant when facing the dual pressures of debt and upcoming examinations. It's ideal to recite this when feeling overwhelmed by financial worries and the stress of academic assessments. Make it a regular part of your supplications, especially during the exam period and when actively seeking ways to manage and repay debts.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, preferably after your obligatory prayers (Salat). Raise your hands, as is the etiquette of dua, and pour your heart out to Allah. Reflect on the meanings of each phrase as you utter them. It’s also beneficial to combine this with other supplications for ease and success, and to take practical steps towards managing your finances and preparing for your exams.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses two significant burdens: debt and the emotional distress that accompanies it ('overcome by debt and the overpowering of men'). It also seeks protection from common psychological barriers that can hinder a student's progress: distress, sorrow, helplessness, laziness, cowardice, and stinginess. By seeking Allah's refuge from these, you are asking for His divine assistance to overcome obstacles, find strength, and achieve ease in both your financial matters and your academic pursuits.
