Dua for Protection from Debt and Misinformation

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overpowering of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua is a comprehensive plea for protection, making it suitable to recite anytime, but particularly beneficial when facing the anxieties of financial hardship, potential debt, or feeling overwhelmed by circumstances. It’s especially relevant when one feels vulnerable to making decisions based on incomplete or misleading information that could lead to debt.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. It is best to raise your hands slightly, as is customary when making dua. Ensure you pronounce the Arabic words correctly to capture their full meaning and spiritual benefit. Repeating it multiple times, especially after your obligatory prayers (Salah), can enhance its effect. Remember that dua is a conversation with Allah, so speak to Him from your heart.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua specifically addresses several key areas: anxiety and sorrow (emotional well-being), weakness and laziness (physical and spiritual drive), cowardice and stinginess (character flaws), and critically, 'overpowering of debt and the subjugation of men.' By seeking refuge from these, we are asking Allah to protect us from financial burdens that overwhelm us and from situations where we might be controlled or exploited, which can often stem from poor decisions made under duress or due to misinformation. It also indirectly aids in seeking clarity of mind, helping us to avoid decisions based on false premises.
