Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), directly addresses financial distress and dependence. By asking Allah to suffice you with lawful means, you are seeking protection from resorting to unlawful or questionable sources of income to settle your debts. The second part, 'wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak' (and make me independent by Your grace instead of relying on anyone other than You), is a comprehensive request for contentment and freedom from the need to beg from creation, whether it's the person you owe or anyone else. It cultivates a reliance solely on Allah, the Ultimate Provider.

‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man who had a written contract (for freedom) came to him and said: 'I am unable to pay my (contractual) money.' He (Ali) said: 'Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught you, so that if you have the equivalent of Mount Sarqeen in debt, Allah will pay it off for you?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and make me independent by Your grace instead of relying on anyone other than You.) — Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563.
