Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahri-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua is especially relevant when facing overwhelming debt or feeling the pressure of financial obligations. It's a comprehensive supplication to seek Allah's protection from the anxieties and hardships associated with debt and other life challenges. Recite it in the morning and evening, or whenever you feel the weight of financial worry.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction. Understand the meaning of each phrase and feel the reliance on Allah. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly as you recite, a common etiquette in supplication. Make sure to pronounce the Arabic clearly. This dua is part of the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ regular supplications, teaching us to seek refuge in Allah from various forms of distress.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua addresses multiple aspects of life, including seeking refuge from emotional distress (anxiety and sorrow), lack of motivation (incapacity and laziness), and character flaws (cowardice and stinginess). Crucially, it specifically seeks protection from the 'burden of debt' and the 'oppression of men' (which can include being indebted to people and facing their demands). By reciting this, we are actively seeking Allah's help not only to repay our debts but also to prevent the very situations that lead to such hardship and humiliation.
