Dua for Debt Repayment Amidst Obstacles and Delays

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua should be recited frequently, especially when you feel overwhelmed by debt, facing difficulties in repayment, or experiencing delays from others. It's particularly poignant to invoke Allah's protection when the weight of debt feels crushing and you fear being overcome by its burden or by the pressure from creditors. Recite it after your obligatory prayers, during the times when dua is more likely to be accepted (like between the Adhan and Iqamah, or during sujood), and whenever the thought of your debt causes you stress.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's ability to alleviate your burdens. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, facing the Qiblah. Raise your hands as you begin the supplication, displaying your need and reliance on Him. Utter the words clearly, reflecting on their meaning. After completing the dua, you can follow up by asking Allah specifically for a way out of your debt and for the means to repay it with ease and barakah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive shield against many of the psychological and practical burdens associated with debt. By seeking refuge in Allah from anxiety and sorrow, you are asking Him to ease the mental distress that often accompanies financial hardship. Protection from incapacity and laziness encourages you to take the necessary steps towards resolving your debt. Shielding yourself from cowardice and stinginess promotes the courage to face your challenges and generosity in seeking solutions. Most critically, seeking refuge from the 'overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men' directly addresses the core fear of being crushed by financial obligations and exploited by people. This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a profound reliance on Allah, acknowledging that true relief and strength come from Him alone.
