When to Read

This dua is perfect to recite when you are facing financial difficulty, especially when you are trying to repay a loan to a family member. Recite it with sincerity and conviction, perhaps after each obligatory prayer or whenever you feel the burden of the debt weighing on you. It's a plea for Allah's help to meet your needs through honest means and to free you from dependence on others.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Recite with a sincere heart, focusing on the meaning and believing that Allah (SWT) is capable of fulfilling your request. It's best recited after the Fard prayers, but it can also be recited at any time you are making dua. Repeating it multiple times can also increase its potential impact, insha'Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), directly asks Allah to provide for us through permissible means, protecting us from unlawful earnings. It also seeks wealth through Allah's bounty, freeing us from reliance on creation. When dealing with debt, especially to family, this dua fosters a sense of peace and reliance on Allah, while encouraging honest effort to clear the obligations.

Source & Authentication

A man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I cannot repay my debt, so help me.' He said: 'I will help you.' Then he said: 'Indeed, the best of help is seeking sufficiency (i.e., seeking Allah's help). If you are able, then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.'
