Dua for Debt Relief Through Divine Guidance and Unexpected Opportunities

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua can be recited at any time, but it's particularly potent when made after your obligatory prayers (Salat). Think of it as a heartfelt plea to Allah when you feel the weight of debt pressing down, seeking His intervention to guide you towards solutions and open doors to unexpected means of repayment.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's ability to help. It’s best to raise your hands in supplication (though not required for this specific dua) and face the Qiblah if possible. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah’s protection from these trials. Repeat it often, especially during times of distress.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, directly addresses the burden of debt and the distress it causes. By seeking refuge in Allah from 'ghalabatid-dayn' (being overwhelmed by debt) and 'qahrir-rijal' (being subdued by men, often through debt collection or the shame associated with it), we are asking for Allah's protection and a way out. It’s a comprehensive plea that covers both the material aspect of debt and the emotional toll it takes, while also seeking strength to overcome it, thereby aligning with divine guidance and opening avenues for relief.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah bin Ja‘far said: ‘Ali bin Abi Talib said to me, “Shall I not tell you something the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me? If you have a debt like the mount of Sir or a single dirham, tell me? I said, “Yes.” He said, ‘Say: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.’ Then he said: ‘Say it every morning and evening.’
