Debt
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone besides You.

Allahumma-kfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

Recite this dua regularly, especially when facing financial hardship or when you feel overwhelmed by debt. It's particularly beneficial to make it part of your routine after the obligatory prayers (Salat) or during the times when supplications are readily accepted, such as the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and complete reliance on Allah. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah to provide for you through permissible means and to make you independent of others. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly while making this supplication, as is the practice with other duas.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for financial well-being and independence from need. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provision, we are seeking protection from resorting to unlawful means to meet our needs. The second part, asking for enrichment through His grace, is a plea for contentment and self-sufficiency, ensuring that our needs are met by Allah alone, fostering a deeper sense of trust and dependence on Him. This dua helps in seeking a legitimate source of income and in finding contentment with what Allah provides.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, indeed I am unable to pay off my debt, so help me." He said: "Shall I not teach you some words that if you say them, Allah would pay off your debt, even if it were as much as Mount Uhud?" He said: "Yes, teach me." He said: "Say: Allahumma-kfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone besides You)." — Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563.
