This dua is a direct plea to Allah for financial security through lawful means. It teaches us to seek provision only from Him, fostering tawakkul (reliance) and contentment. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provision, we guard ourselves against seeking haram income. The second part, 'enrich me with Your grace, so that I shall not need to seek from anyone other than You,' is a profound request for independence and dignity, freeing us from reliance on others and the potential shame or burden that can come with it. This dua is not just about debt; it's about cultivating a mindset of seeking all blessings from the One True Source.
Source & Authentication
‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am unable to repay my debt.' So he (peace be upon him) said: 'Shall I not teach you words that, if you say them, Allah would remove your debt, even if it were as much as Mount Uhud? Then he said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision in place of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I shall not need to seek from anyone other than You.'
