O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and from being overcome by men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.
When to Read
This powerful dua is particularly relevant when facing the overwhelming burden of debt. Recite it after every obligatory prayer, or at any time you feel the weight of financial hardship pressing down on you. It's especially poignant if you've incurred debts without fully understanding or adhering to Islamic financial principles, as it seeks protection from the consequences of such actions and the helplessness they can bring.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, ideally after your obligatory prayers. Raise your hands slightly as you supplicate, reflecting the earnestness of your plea. Imagine yourself seeking direct protection and assistance from Allah (SWT). Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly internalizing your reliance on Him for relief.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication encompasses seeking refuge from deeply distressing emotional states (distress and sorrow) and debilitating personal shortcomings (helplessness and laziness). It also guards against negative character traits (cowardice and stinginess) that can sometimes lead to poor financial decisions. Crucially, it directly asks for protection from the crushing weight of debt ('burden of debt') and the humiliation of being controlled or overpowered by others due to financial circumstances ('being overcome by men'). By reciting this, a believer actively seeks Allah's (SWT) divine intervention and protection against these pervasive worldly and emotional struggles.
