Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5506

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and from being overcome by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, not only addresses the specific worry of debt but also provides a shield against many other troubles that can lead to or exacerbate financial hardship, such as worry, laziness, fear, and miserliness. By seeking refuge in Allah from 'being overwhelmed by debt and being overcome by men,' we are asking for His divine intervention to ease our burdens and protect us from the humiliation and helplessness that can accompany overwhelming debt. It's a holistic approach to seeking well-being, both worldly and in the hereafter, by relying on the Creator of all means.
