Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the force of men (oppression).

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful dua is especially relevant when one is struggling with debt or facing the threat of oppressive lenders. It's beneficial to recite it regularly, particularly after obligatory prayers, or during times of significant financial stress and worry. Making it a habit can invoke Allah's protection and assistance in overcoming these difficulties.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction, raising your hands as you would in supplication. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah's refuge. It's best recited when you are in a state of purity (wudu) and facing the Qiblah. Continue to make dua even after reciting this specific supplication, asking Allah for a way out of your debt and protection from those who might exploit you.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encompasses seeking refuge from various forms of distress, both internal and external. Specifically concerning debt, it directly asks Allah for protection from the 'burden of debt' (ghalabatid-dayn), which implies being overwhelmed by it, and 'the force of men' (qahrir-rijal), which can refer to oppressive creditors, loan sharks, or anyone who might use their power to unjustly pressure debtors. By reciting this, we are actively seeking Allah's divine intervention to alleviate financial burdens and safeguard us from exploitation.
