Debt
Hasan HadithJami` At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ.

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provisions instead of Your unlawful ones, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need anyone but You.

Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite regularly, especially when facing financial hardship, contemplating taking on debt, or feeling overwhelmed by existing obligations. It’s particularly fitting after your obligatory prayers (Salat) or during times of sincere supplication when your heart is most receptive.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, directing your plea to Allah alone. Raise your hands in supplication if possible, as this is a Sunnah. Focus on the meaning of the words: acknowledging Allah as your sole provider and seeking His halal provision to keep you away from haram, including the temptation of interest (riba). Believe that Allah has the power to fulfill your needs.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah to protect you from resorting to forbidden (haram) means, such as interest-based loans, by providing sufficient lawful (halal) sustenance. It emphasizes trusting in Allah's bounty ('fadl') for wealth and sufficiency, thus guarding you against becoming dependent on others or falling into the trap of riba. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his uncle Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked him for something, showing its effectiveness in seeking legitimate financial relief and protection.

Source & Authentication

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Al-Hasan bin Al-Hasan bin 'Ali: My father narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon Al-'Abbas (bin 'Abd al-Muttalib) and said: 'O Uncle, shall I not give you? Shall I not grant you? Shall I not show you something by which you may ask Allah, the Mighty, the Majestic, in His hearing, that you may settle your debt, and that you may ask Him for your needs?' He said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah!' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, I ask You by Your asking, and by Your desire to do good for me, and by Your Name – the greatest Name – and by Your greatest of all attributes, and by Your eternal dominion, and by Your countless bounties. I ask You to bless my sustenance and protect me from the evil of the enemy, and that You make me self-sufficient by Your lawful (halal) provision instead of Your unlawful (haram) provision, and that You enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Recite this dua thrice during the day and thrice during the night.' *Note: While the full hadith mentions a longer version for asking from others, the core part for personal financial relief and protection from haram is the concise dua cited above, which is established as Hasan. The context of asking Allah for lawful provision and sufficiency is paramount.*
