Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his Companions, offers comprehensive protection. It seeks refuge not only from the emotional toll of debt ('distress and sorrow') but also from the internal states that prevent us from overcoming it ('incapacity and laziness'). Furthermore, it guards against character flaws that can worsen our situation ('cowardice and stinginess') and directly asks for protection from the crushing weight of debt ('overwhelming of debt') and the humiliation that can come with it ('subjugation of men'). By reciting this, you are actively seeking Allah's help to overcome financial struggles and find dignified means of sustenance.
