Dua for Debt Relief and Divine Compensation

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahri ar-rijali.

Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, and face the Qiblah while making the dua. Believe that Allah is capable of relieving your distress and compensating for your losses.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the anxieties associated with debt and financial hardship. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'burden of debt' (ghalabatid-dayni) and 'overpowering of men' (qahri ar-rijali), we acknowledge that true relief and strength come only from Him. The Prophet's ﷺ consistent recitation of this dua highlights its importance in seeking Allah’s protection from these weighty matters.

‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach them to say: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَقَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ ‘Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahri ar-rijali.’ (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men.) ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, the jinn and the humans say it.' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'I indeed recite it many times.'
