Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision against Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty so that I may not need to ask from anyone other than You.

Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This powerful dua is especially pertinent when you are struggling with debt or feel overwhelmed by financial worries. It can be recited after every obligatory prayer, or at any time you feel the need to turn to Allah for relief and sustenance. Make it a regular part of your supplications, particularly during times of hardship.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, believing in Allah's ability to provide. Raise your hands as you make dua, a sign of supplication and reliance on your Lord. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah to replace any unlawful or problematic means with lawful ones, and to make you independent of creation through His immense grace.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a beautiful request for both spiritual and material well-being. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provision, we seek protection from engaging in anything that displeases Him. The second part, seeking richness through His bounty, is a plea for contentment and independence from relying on anyone but Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for a way to pay off his debt, highlighting its efficacy in seeking relief from financial burdens and a blessing in one's sustenance.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught me these words and promised that if you have the equivalent of a mountain of debt, Allah would help you to pay it off. He said: 'Say: Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision against Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty so that I may not need to ask from anyone other than You.)
