Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ.

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision against Your unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka.

When to Read

This powerful dua is for anyone burdened by debt, especially when that debt was taken for a noble, Allah-pleasing cause. Recite it after every obligatory prayer, or at any time you feel overwhelmed by your financial situation. It's a moment to turn your heart completely to Allah, acknowledging that He is the ultimate provider and sustainer.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Raise your hands as you make dua, a sign of seeking help from Allah. Focus on the meaning of the words, truly asking Allah to provide for you through lawful means and to make you independent of anyone else. Consistency is key; make it a habit, especially in the difficult times.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah to steer you away from unlawful earnings and to provide for you through His lawful means, which is a source of blessing and purity. It also seeks Allah's grace to make you feel content and independent, reducing reliance on people and strengthening your Tawakkul (trust in Allah). When the debt was incurred for a cause of Allah (like furthering Islamic knowledge or supporting a needy family member), this dua is particularly potent as it aligns your supplication with your sincere intention.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed I am afraid that I will be indebted." He said: "Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka." (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision against Your unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You). Then another man came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed I am afraid that I will be indebted." He said to him: "Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka." (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563. This hadith is Hasan).
