Dua for a Child or Loved One in Debt and Facing Hardship

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect for moments when you or a loved one, especially a child, are struggling with overwhelming debt and the associated anxieties. Recite it in the morning and evening, after prayers, or whenever you feel the weight of this burden. It's a plea to Allah for protection from the mental anguish, helplessness, and financial strain that debt can bring, as well as the societal pressures that often accompany it.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction. Raise your hands in supplication, placing your palms facing upwards, just as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to do. Utter the words clearly, reflecting on their meaning. Imagine Allah's protection enveloping you and your loved one. It's recommended to say it both in the morning and evening, as a shield against difficulties throughout the day and night.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers comprehensive protection against crippling debt and its psychological effects. By seeking refuge in Allah from 'ghalabatid-dayn' (overwhelming debt) and 'qahrir-rijal' (subjugation of men, often interpreted as the pressure and shame from creditors or society), we acknowledge Allah's power to relieve us from these worldly troubles. It’s a recognition that true relief comes only from Him, and it fosters patience and reliance (tawakkul) on Allah during difficult financial times. It also shields us from the inner turmoil of worry and grief.
